Trout Fishing & Outdoor Adventures Near Skeenah Creek Campground & Mill

Summer is one of the best times to experience the outdoors in the North Georgia mountains, and Skeenah places you right in the middle of it all.

If your ideal getaway includes trout fishing, waterfalls, scenic drives, hiking trails and time outdoors, you're in the right place!

Let's start with the TOCCOA RIVER! Just minutes from Skeenah, the Toccoa River is one of the most popular trout fishing destinations in the North Georgia mountains, offering excellent opportunities for both rainbow and brown trout.

Some favorite fishing destinations near Skeenah include:

  • Coopers Creek WMA - Stocked regularly, you'll have access to miles of fishing that's great for fly and lure fishing. Also enjoy miles of easy to moderate hiking in the Chattahoochee National Forest. I recommend using this Interactive Map to help find the best and most convenient spot for fishing and/or hiking.S

  • Lake Winfield Scott - Just under 30 minutes from Skeenah, this beautiful mountain lake is tucked deep in the Chattahoochee National Forest and is great for a day of peaceful trout fishing, kayaking and if you so choose, lakeside hiking. If the lake is quiet, check out Boggs Creek or Frogtown Creek for more great trout fishing.

  • Lake Blue Ridge - Just 20 minutes from the campground, this lake has to be one of the most picturesque lakes in Georgia (the sunsets are 😍)! Great for fishing, swimming, boating kayaking and paddle boarding. Another great spot is the Lake Blue Ridge Dam Recreation. Incredible views and below the dam is a good spot for launching your floating device of choice and trout fishing.

Tip: If you're looking to rent a boat, we can't recommend Lake Blue Ridge Marina enough! And rumor has it that their Boat Dock Bar & Grill has THE best smoked chicken wings!

Tubing on the Toccoa River - Beyond fishing on the Toccoa River, the season of tubing and kayaking has begun (weather permitting)! The water flows gentle enough that it's something the whole family will enjoy... relaxation for us adults and adventure for the kiddos (4 and up).  Just minutes from Skeenah, there are two locations where you can rent tubes and the shuttle is included:

  1. Toccoa Valley Campground - Single or double kayaks are also available for rent.

  2. Blue Ridge Tubing

If you’re up for a scenic drive through the mountains, be sure to visit Bell Mountain in nearby Hiawassee. At the top, you’ll be rewarded with stunning 360-degree views overlooking Hiawassee and beautiful Lake Chatuge. Visitors can drive to the summit, though the road is steep in some areas, or choose to take the shuttle option available during busier times. Once you arrive, you can also climb the viewing platform steps for even more breathtaking mountain views.
